Our roadtrip started, as for many Ukrainians unexpectedly on the 24th of February 2022, when Russian terrorists attacked Ukraine and the war started in our home. We spent a night in Lutsk, then some nights in Tyachiv, we were always on the road, without any ideas about where to go and what to do. Finally, we ended up in Shydnitsa, where we stayed for a month.

Shydnitsa

Shydnitsa, a charming place nestled amidst the Carpathian Mountains, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. This picturesque Ukrainian village offers a serene retreat for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers.

Festung Tustan

Festung Tustan, a historical marvel situated in the heart of the Ukrainian Carpathians, just 11 km away from Shydnitsa is a testament to the region’s rich heritage. This ancient fortress, perched atop rocky cliffs, transports visitors back in time with its imposing stone walls and fascinating archaeological remains. Originally built during the 9th century, Festung Tustan served as a vital stronghold along the trade routes of medieval Europe. Today, it stands as a captivating open-air museum, allowing guests to explore its intricate network of tunnels, chambers, and defensive structures. The site’s breathtaking panoramic views and well-preserved artifacts offer a glimpse into the past, while educational exhibitions and interactive displays bring the history to life.
